Fun Fact about the Baobab Tree
Known as Africa’s tree of life, the Baobab tree symbolises life and positivity, as it can live for over 5,000 years in the harshest, most arid conditions. It stands out for its distinctively thick trunk and majestic stature.
These trees also represent community, wisdom and spirituality. It is thought that kings and elders would hold meetings under the Baobab tree, with the belief that the tree's spirits would guide them in decision-making. In more modern times, the Baobab trees are stilled used as a venue for community meetings or even as a classroom. A baobab tree also makes a home for the wise Rafiki in the Lion King.
An old Ewe proverb states: “Wisdom is like a baobab tree; no one individual can embrace it.”
